Three of the four winemakers – Piet du Toit, Hempies du Toit and Schalk van der Westhuizen – gathered in late 2010 at the idyllic estate to launch the much anticipated Alto M.P.H.S. 2007 which takes its name from their initials. The powerfully sleek micro-cuvée was created to honour the extraordinary soils and location of this Stellenbosch Winelands red wine estate. A mere 1 800 litres of the 67/33 blend of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon was aged for two years in wood and then left to mature in the bottle for another year before release.
Of the Alto M.P.H.S., winemaker, Schalk van der Westhuizen had this to say,
“When you pick at such ripeness, it is always a challenge to achieve a finessed profile but I think we have succeeded. The wine is ready for enjoyment now but it has the structure to age for a decade at least.”
